To visit Tarragona is to dig into several handfuls of fantastic adventures !

As is the most southern Catalan province Tarragona is also the most exotic one and the Tarragona City, which use to be the Romans capital known as Tarrago, has been named UNESCO world heritage site. The fascinating Roman legacy is very dominating though out this beautiful and somehow overlooked province and these historical sights gives Tarragona City and the province a different and intriguing atmosphere.

Tarragona province, which is blessed with sunshine and a unique magical landscape, has a large number of fishing villages and seaside towns offering a good range of options for beautiful white sandy golden beaches. Called the Gold Coast (Costa Dorada) the long wide sandy beaches, which includes un spoilt beaches, sand dunes and paddy fields, runs from the south of Barcelona to the fantastic large L`Ebre Delta Nature Reserve in the southern part of the province.

The province has a number of striking cities and particularly notable are Reus, Tortosa and Tarragona. It`s a part of Catalonia that is saturated in culture and amazing history and for lovers of the arts the province of Tarragona is renowned for its inspiration. E.g. one can follow an excellent cultural route in the footsteps of the Four Geniuses – Picasso, Gaudi, Miró and Casals.

The authentic and well preserved Tarragona City is located majestically on the shores of the Mediterranean right on the Costa Dorada. Known as the former Roman Capital Tarraco it offers an important legacy of monuments amid extensive beaches. Its archaeological remains forming a World Heritage Site, presents layer upon layer of history everywhere in the city; from the listed Roman ruins to the medieval alleyways and cobblestone streets and the Romanesque-Gothic cathedral. Take a scenic stroll through the atmospheric neighbourhoods and enjoy delicious fresh seafood at one of the waterfront restaurants.

Several excellent beaches along the Costa Dorada are easily accessible and about 12 km south of Tarragona the fabulous and popular beach resort of Salou opens its doors for the visitor boasting fine priced sandy beaches as well as a nice boating harbour. The town draws sunbathers and water sport enthusiast and is ideally designed for tourists with a vast surplus of exiting offers to choose from, including the fantastic huge Port Aventura Theme Fun Fare Park.
Further 7 km to the south the quaint picturesque fishing village Cambrils is beautifully located in a protected amazing bay and really something to see!

The marvellous province furthermore offers a number of important monumental, historical and natural sites such as e.g. the Cistercian Monastery Route which takes you to get to know the monasteries of Santes Creus and Poblet declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Also the known Delta del Ebro Natural Park beside its clear waters offers a famous culinary tradition and beautiful protected areas.

A good option while visiting Tarragona is to dig into the culinary traditions the hole area is known for. A good option for tasting the shellfish and fish typical of the area is to go to El Serrallo and the towns fishing district. Langoustines from San Carlos de la Rápita or crustaceans from Cambrils and eels from the Ebro Delta are some of the coastal products offered by the cuisine of the Tarragona province. Vegetables from inland are accompanied by romesco sauce (made with dried red peppers, tomatoes and almonds) while the stews combine the area’s raw materials. Pataco (stew of snails, potatoes, tuna, almonds, garlic and ham), cod balls, or rice with cuttlefish coloured with its own ink are some possibilities. Desserts have almonds and lemons as the main ingredient. The province’s extensive vineyards give rise to five interesting denominations of origin: Tarragona, Conca de Barberá, Penedés, Priorato and Terra Alta and the wine routes are really something extraordinary.

Cambrils located south of Salou is a beautiful authentic seafaring village where can enjoy the fresh fish court on a daily basis by the local fishermen. The original old town is situated in close connection to the charming seafront from where one can enjoy the spectacular views of the beautiful pleasure harbour sitting in one of the fabulous seafood restaurants. The charming narrow street with all its interesting shops and the fine golden beaches along with the laid back atmosphere mas this village very special.

La Pineda

La Pineda is located in the outskirts of Salou with great views from the bay of the beautiful town of Tarragona and has a series of activities designed for families such as the enjoyable waterpark Aguopolis. As La Pineda means “Pinewood” it is a nice tranquilly quality destination with a long sea front, nice sandy beaches combined with a wide range of restaurants, bars, shops and nightlife.
