Iberian settlement at Montbarbat

The Montbarbat route is a circular itinerary that covers the modernist route and the hermitages of Lloret. Furthermore the path will take you to the remains of an ancient Iberian town. All in all a walk with very good views of the coastal area and at the same time one will discover the rich heritage of modernist art scattered by the characteristic Mediterranean forests. The fact that it is a circular route makes the path so much more pleasant. Be well equipped with both comfortable footwear, drinks and food.

Itinerary

Starting out from Museum del Mar following the Mossèn J. Verdaguer promenade until one reaches the Town Hall. Here turn on the right side towards the Church Square where one will find the beautiful Sant Romà Parish Church. Continue along Rectoria Street and then along Hospital Vell Street and make a stop at the sheltered chapel of Sants Metges. From the chapel follow Just Marlés Avenue along the covered route of the Montbarbat Stream until one reaches the town cemetery. Here one will be able to see a number of elaborate modernistic style tombs designed by J. Puig i Cadafalch and other disciples of the Gaudí School.
Exiting from the back of the cemetery and continuing along the path one will now reach the Sant Quirze Hermitage dating back to the 11th century. Continuing along a sandy paths one will come to a road leading to the Condado de Jaruco residential area which one passes through the Mare de Déu de Gràcia Avenue. One will then find a crossroad at the end of the paved road in the residential area and at the beginning of the sandy path. Not far from this crossroad one will see the Angel Monument rising a-top of the hill. Do not leave the main sandy path but keep to the signposts that one finds along the path. One will pass by the Angel golf course and cross the bridge over the Passapera Stream.

On the other side of the bridge one will see the Mare de Déu de Gràcia Oratory a small chapel before one comes across the Sant Pere del Bosc Hermitage. Heading back in the direction that one came just to join the path once again one will find a signpost that points to a shortcut. Follow it to go towards the Vilar Sanctuary in Blanes.

Finally to reach the Iberian settlement in Montbarbat one follows the same path only be careful not to be misled by the rounded granite outcroppings and the numerous woodland roads that you will find along the way. From Montbarbat one will be able to enjoy wonderful views of the coast and the coastal mountain range. The trail continues past Can Daura to the Angel Golf course and then back to Lloret de Mar.
