Itinerary

Starting the route in the heart of charming village of L’Estartit from the Carrer de Barcelona. From here one climbs up the street to a small viewpoint from where one can enjoy some spectacular panoramic views of L’Estartit. Then one leaves the road only to continue on a path to the right with clear indications of signals marked in white and green signs going towards L’Escala.

The path of the first stretch of the route is a bit stony with quite a few moving stones. Then when arriving at the plain of Milan one will follow the indication along the coast towards L`Escala.

One will along the coast pass by a string of beautiful coves and beaches such as firstly the Pedrosa cove located just north of the town of L’Estartit. The cove is located in a natural area with a low degree of employment even in the summer.

The next to be reached following the coastal path is the Calella cove located a bit further north. Then after quite a long walk through the Montgri nature reserve one enters the Ferriol cove which is the second largest cove on the coast of Montgrí.

Leaving Ferriol behind one moves forwards Punta Milà which one reaches before going a bit inland through the flat Mila plain. After a while it start to go a bit and one enters the massif of Montgrí.

Later one will reach the impressive Montgó cove area which is actually rather a small bay. It is also the most important geographic feature of the whole Montgrí coastline and its rounded form is clearly shaped by the action of the water of the sea. In Roman times it was used as a landing point as shown by the remains found.

After taking a well-deserved break one starts the last leg passing Punta del Roig & Punta Montgri and later to catch up with the Planasses road before passing the Port de la Clota in the Riels area. Choose to walk along the beautiful Riells promenade before following the charming coastline towards the centre of the old town and beaches of L`Escala.
